Dead of Night

About the project, an artist statement:

The uncanny describes a psychological feeling that something is strangely familiar. This concept that when familiar objects are placed in unsettling contexts it leads to an uncomfortable viewing, is a theory I have taken on board when creating the series ‘Dead of Night’. They are a collection of long exposure imagery representing areas that may feel mundane within daylight but unsettling once the sun has set. They take the viewer through a journey across different locations of the English landscape, from urban streets to desolate green spaces and represent not only fear but the beauty of these unseen landscapes. The scenes feature signs of human activity with minimal people, which enable the feeling of the uncanny to arise as locations are not being seen for their purpose.

This project has been a personal exploration that has pushed me to question fear itself and where it comes from, with my intentions to allow the viewer space and time to question their own understanding of the night.
